Other places in Wyoming with nobody in them
This state has the fewest people of any in the union, pronghorn standing where the people would be, bison that do not move for traffic, and a wind that never takes a day off. It is mostly places with nobody in them. Our office is one of those. These are the better known ones.

Fifty million years of fish, preserved in the rock where they stopped moving. Our filing system works on the same principle, minus the preservation.

Snow on the pass into June, some years July. When the road over it closes, so are we. When it opens, we are still closed, for a different reason.

Flaming Gorge
Red cliffs, deep water, a boat ramp with nobody on it most afternoons. Nobody at the ramp checks whether your company has an agent. Nobody at the office checks whether the office has one.

the Wind River Range
The highest ground in the state, a long walk from any road, named for the one thing out here that shows up on schedule. The office is nearer a road than this. Not by enough to matter.

Ayres Natural Bridge
A rock arch with a creek under it that got that way by waiting. We got where we are the same way. A process server standing at our door gets the treatment the creek gets.

the Oregon Trail ruts at Guernsey
Wagon wheels wore grooves into the sandstone and the sandstone kept them. Papers left at our door do not wear in. They blow off toward the pronghorn. Out here only the rock keeps a record.

Fastest animal on the continent, and it still cannot reach our office before it closes. Nobody can. It closes when it opens.
